Portal Pinball Overview

Officially revealed earlier today, Portal Pinball is the latest full game kit release for Multimorphic and their P3 platform. This follows their last major release, The Princess Bride, last year, and would be their 9th major game release for the platform.

The game is based on the Portal video game from Valve, and uses content from both Portal video games, Portal 1 and Portal 2.

The game has been rumored in the community for some time, and was officially confirmed in a teaser image shared to official Multimorphic social channels last week.

Who's Who for Portal Pinball

The design and development crew for Portal Pinball includes:

  • Brad Albright (art)
  • Rory Cernuda (technical artist, video animations)

Notable names include Brad Albright on art, Scott Danesi on sound/music, and Ian Harrower on code. Portal represents the first major commercial game release for both Brad Albright and Ian Harrower.

Also notable is the inclusion of Ellen McLain, who voiced GLaDOS in the original Portal series.

Portal Pinball Rules

Each player starts gameplay in “the Hub” which is thematically similar to the Portal 2 Cooperative Testing Initiative location of the same name.  In the Hub you will meet Reggie, the “Teambuilding” Personality Core (voiced by Marc Silk) who will encourage and direct you to complete specific objectives or enter and complete the 7 unique Test Chambers.  After completing all the chambers you will have the chance to battle GLaDOS (voiced by Ellen McLain), the AI antagonist who supervises and taunts you throughout the game.  If you complete all the test chambers, you can play the final wizard mode: a face-to-face battle with GLaDOS.The Test Chambers include:

  • The Big Fling
  • Encouragement via Discouragement
  • Proactive Energy Redirection
  • It Takes Two
  • Shortcuts
  • Gels
  • Rat Man’s Den

When not in a specific Test Chamber, your goal in the Hub is to prove your skills and increase your score by completing each of 8 objectives and 3 stackable Multiball Modes.  Each Objective and Multiball focuses on different aspects of the physical playfield. The Hub Objectives are:

  • Ramp Combos
  • Loop Combos
  • Repulsion Gel
  • Momentum Jump
  • Portal Mini-Loops
  • Hard Light Bridge
  • All Ports
  • All Targets

The Multiballs available in the Hub are stackable with one another, feature an add-a-ball component, and can be stacked with objectives. They include:

  • Faith Plate Multiball
  • Turret Multiball
  • Edgeless Safety Cube Multiball
