A few minutes ago, Stern Pinball officially dropped the teaser for their latest cornerstone release, the much rumored Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye, which is presumably helmed by designer Brian Eddy and rules designer Dwight Sullivan.

The game, which is set to be officially revealed at CES on January 7th (also at Stern's Headquarters, where we will be attending a special media reveal event), looks to be themed off an original Dungeons & Dragons game campaign, rather than off any specific related IP like the recent movie or other properties.

The game will be revealed to the world digitally, at least, on Friday, 1/3.

The official teaser trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eve, can be see on YouTube.

Pricing

According to Stern's website, pricing remains the same as prior cornerstone releases.

  • Pro models from $6,999 MSRP
  • Premium models from $9,699 MSRP
  • LE models from $12,999 MSRP

Teaser Trailer

Early into the teaser trailer, we do get a glimpse of what looks to be a moving Dragon mech, which could be the primary toy in the game.

Speculating Gameplay Details

Knowing what we know of Wizards of the Coast and how they have approached third party brand extensions with their Dungeon's & Dragons property, I wonder if we won't see a fully original story set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, perhaps using original voice talent from related entities like Critical Role.

In addition, given that this is a follow-up to Brian Eddy and Dwight Sullivan's 2023 effort, Venom, it's likely we'll see an evolution of their leveling and XP system, which at first glance would seem to be a natural fit with a game like Dungeons & Dragons.

Hype for Dungeons & Dragons Pinball Machine

Early reactions to this theme choice from the pinball community have been decidedly mixed, where many associate the theme strictly with underperforming blockbuster movies or with the nostalgic game played in suburban basements in the 70s and 80s. However, Dungeons & Dragons is big business for IP holder Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, as evidenced in part by the success of entities like Baldur's Gate 3 and Critical Role.

In our Hype Index, Dungeons & Dragons peaked at an official rank of #22, however site users gave it a 90/100 on the Hype Scale, which indicates some enthusiasm for the property.

More details to come as we receive them!
