After a week of anticipation, Stern Pinball just announced their newest pinball machine, The Uncanny X-Men, based specifically on the “Days of Future Past” arc from the comics. The table is Jack Danger’s second cornerstone pinball design after Foo Fighters, and the layout represents a similar evolution of pinball shot paths and mechanics.

Stern has a strong history with Marvel licenses; Venom was released at the tail end of last year, and Deadpool is one of the most consistent earning machines that Stern has ever released. Uncanny X-Men looks to continue the tradition and, similarly to Venom, combine the theme with some new concepts to pinball.

Hype & Rumors for Uncanny X-Men Pinball

Uncanny X-Men was long rumored to be based on the X-Men '97 Marvel television series, or at least broadly tied back to 1990s era X-Men characters. While it was tracked as X-Men '97 in our Hype Index, we're going to take it off the board as being close enough and probably what all the rumors were based on.

X-Men '97 peaked at spot #63 in our index.

Generally people were "very hyped" for this theme, noting a Hype Level of 93/100.

Uncanny X-Men Pinball Overview

  • Premium MSRP: $9,699
  • LE MSRP: $12,999 (Only 811 units available)

Notable Game Features

Some of these can only be found on Prem / LE models of the machine. They will be marked accordingly.

Danger Room

Jack Danger always wanted to include an outlane spinner on one of his machines and he finally got his wish! Instead of a standard left outlane, the area near the left playfield is dedicated to the Danger Room, essentially the training facility of the X-Men. This mini area features an outlane spinner, and a ramp that feeds the main flippers and exits the training area. Shoot the X-Mansion ramp to instantly access the Danger Room.

Sentinel

The Sentinels are the big robots that the X-Men face off against. On this table, the center bash toy is a Sentinel head that can be bashed with the ball. The Sentinel head’s chin can also lower to reveal a kickback shot that fires the ball right back at the player.

On the Prem / LE, the Sentinel raises out of the playfield rather than remaining static, and its hands can mess with the trajectories of certain ramp shots.

Cerebro Lock

Balls exiting the Danger Room are held by a swinging up-post (not a magnet as previously thought) that briefly holds and releases the ball. Complete missions to light this lock and travel between the past and future.

Beast’s Lab (Prem / LE)

This area features a captive ball / vari-target hybrid like the Carnage shot from Venom. On the Pro model, this is replaced by a leaper target (see: Led Zeppelin Icarus) that achieves the same effect.

New Insider Connected Integrations

Players will be able to sign up on Insider Connected to discover new mutants through the Cerebro rule that carry across games when discovered and discover their own mutant power to help them with online Quests.
