About Spinball

Spinball S.A.L. was a Spanish pinball manufacturer founded in the mid-1990s in Fuenlabrada, near Madrid, by a team of former Inder employees following that company’s closure. Established as a worker-owned firm (Sociedad Anónima Laboral), Spinball sought to continue Spain’s domestic pinball production at a time when the global industry was in decline. By acquiring the rights to Inder’s unfinished designs and production assets, Spinball was able to quickly enter the market, positioning itself as one of the last active pinball manufacturers in Spain. Though short-lived, the company produced a small but memorable lineup of games that remain notable for their creativity and scarcity.

Spinball released three machines between 1995 and 1996: Mach 2.0 TwoJolly Park, and Verne’s World. The first, Mach 2.0 Two (1995), was based on a design originally developed by Inder and featured a jet fighter theme with stylized playfield props. In 1996, the company introduced Jolly Park, a light-hearted amusement park-themed game featuring a “Magnetic House” ball lock mechanism—a distinctive magnetic ball elevator that added verticality and flair to gameplay. Later that year, Verne’s World debuted as Spinball’s most ambitious title, a widebody machine inspired by the adventures of Jules Verne. It included elaborate features such as a moving octopus toy, a multiball-triggering hot air balloon, and a volcano eruption effect, showcasing the design team's ingenuity despite limited resources.

Technologically, Spinball games kept pace with industry standards of the time by incorporating dot-matrix displays and multiball gameplay, while also experimenting with materials like acrylic (Perspex) playfields to reduce wear. These innovations, combined with unique mechanical toys and unconventional themes, gave Spinball machines a distinctive character that set them apart from larger U.S. manufacturers. However, the company faced insurmountable challenges amid the shrinking European pinball market and ceased operations by the end of 1996. With only three titles produced in limited quantities, Spinball holds a niche but respected place in pinball history as one of the last companies to manufacture machines in Spain.
